Una manciata di parole per tratteggiare un intero mondo, intimo e reale, nel quale essere catapultati come spettatori indiscreti, tra linee melodiche che delineano il fluire delle emozioni: questa è l’anima di a sleepless mind.
Sono i testi firmati da a sleepless mind. a identificare sin dai primi istanti il cuore pulsante del lavoro, mutuando dall’inglese lingua e musicalità. Tra i versi prendono corpo storie che si muovono nel mondo di ogni giorno, con rapidi cambi di scena e intense venature emozionali. Assumono così importanza i dettagli quotidiani, in netto contrasto con le ombre più oscure della coscienza del protagonista e delicate riflessioni intime. In questo modo, i testi prendono vita in una dimensione più profonda e ingarbugliata, dove la nudità delle emozioni trova sfogo diluendosi nelle melodie: compaiono gli abissi della mancanza, i dubbi, le paure, la solitudine, poi inaspettati fanno breccia la dolcezza, i ricordi la pace.
L’amalgama di emozioni e la vocazione lo-fi del disco sono plasmate dal connubio di due anime dissimili. Accanto al cantautore compare infatti il tocco di Mario Bartilucci, voce e chitarra dei Baton Rouge, band di Saronno attiva in Italia e all’estero nell’universo blues e spesso sul palco a fianco di grandi artisti (basti pensare a Fabio Treves). Partendo da presupposti apparentemente antitetici, l’anima sanguigna del blues del Delta si fonde nel progetto a sleepless mind. tra le sue trame chitarristiche e, non meno importante, conservando dalla lezione dei vati del Mississippi la visceralità delle espressioni e la profondità del suono. Sul disco, accanto alla chitarra di Bartilucci, compaiono gli inteventi di Vincenzo Giacalone all’ukulele e per un breve inserto di mandolino.

The lyrics of a sleepless mind. identify from the first moments the beating heart of the work and they borrow from the English language words and musicality. Stories that moves in the everyday world come to life in the verses, with fast scene changes and intense emotional veins. So the daily details assume importance, in sharp contrast with the darker shadows of the author’s consciousness and delicate intimate reflections. In this way, the lyrics come to life in a deeper and tangled dimension, where the nudity of emotions thin down into the melodies: so depths of loneliness, doubts, fears appear, followed by unexpected sweetness, memories and peace.
The mix of emotions and the lo-fi vocation of the album are shaped by the union of two different souls. Mario Bartilucci, voice and guitar of Baton Rouge, a band active in the Italian and international blues universe and often on stage with famous artists, is next to the singer. Starting from assumptions that appear to be paradoxical, the bloody soul of Delta blues merges into this project, between the guitar textures and, not least, preserve the lessons of the Mississippi bluesmen, like the visceral expression and the depth of sound. On the record, next to Bartilucci’s guitar, there is the sound of Vincent Giacalone on the ukulele and a short insert of mandolin.
